A WORD FOR TODAY

RUN THE RACE WITH FOCUS TO WIN THE PRIZE

"Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable"(1 Corinthians 9:24-25)_

When you go to the stadium to watch a race, you could see determination in the faces of the athlete who are competing. They may be 10 in number, but only one person will win in the end. Who will win, will depend on a lot of factors which includes discipline and the level of training one has done before the tournament.

St. Paul in the first reading of today reminds us of the need to see our mission to preach the Good News as athletes competing in a race. We are running a heavenly race and if we are going to win the prize which is imperishable, we must be ready to pay the price here on earth by doing God's will.

To run a good race you must be focused and determined. You must give it your all and there should be no room for distraction. If you let distraction set in, it will cost you the prize, therefore, avoid it at all cost.

If we are going to win the prize we must subject our body and mind to spiritual training so that we will continue to do what God wants and we will not be denied access to enter into the kingdom of heaven on the last day.

When we are disciplined we will not be quick to judge others and find fault in them, instead, we will first work on ourselves, remove the log in our eyes by way of sinful habits so that we can see clearly and be able to help others who may be in need of our help as the gospel reading recommends.

We have a responsibility to Proclaim Jesus and we should never be ashamed to do that, because it will merit us a place in God's kingdom on the last day. We must try as much as we can to keep proclaiming Jesus in season and out of season.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a joyful day. May Jesus Help you to stay focused as you run the heavenly race. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation:* 1 Corinthians 9:16-19,22-27/Psalm 84:3-6,12/Luke 6:39-42

Watch-Word:* Your word O Lord is truth, sanctify us in the truth.
