*A WORD FOR TODAY*

*BE CLEAN ON THE INSIDE TOO*

_"And the Lord said to him, Now you Pharisees cleanse the outside of the cup and of the dish, but inside you are full of extortion and wickedness. You fools! Did not he who made the outside make the inside also?"(Luke 11:39-40)_

_*When it comes to following Jesus, it will only make sense when we do it in His own terms and according to His standards. The way of the Lord is known to all and it is open for everyone to see, but if you fail to work in His ways, you will end up going the wrong way which will not bring any good.*_

_Jesus reminds us in the gospel reading of today that we should not only focus on the external observance of the law as the pharisees do, but we must go beyond the external to make sure we are clean on the inside too._

_*Many times we are concerned about how we look on the outside and do things just to please people, but we forget to take care of our soul and live an interior life worthy of our calling as God's children.*_

_We must be conscious of the fact that we are made of body and soul and we must take care of them as we journey along in life. However, taking care of our soul must be a priority to us. We must strive to be clean on the inside too as we try to look good and elegant on the outdide where people see us._

_*Sometimes our hearts are filled with evil, but we pretend on the outside to be holy and righteous. That is hypocrisy and Jesus condemns it. If we are going to live for Jesus, we must strive to expunge from our heart everything that represents evil and sin and work hard everyday to do good and live a righteous life.*_

_Always aim to be clean on the inside too, so that there will be a correspondence between what you do and what you say. If you are holy on the inside it will also reflect on your external behaviour which will show that you are not acting or living just to impress people, but simply being real and good._
