A WORD FOR TODAY

LEAVE JUDGEMENT FOR GOD

The admonition of saint Paul in the first reading of today is something that we must take to the heart and try as much as possible to put it into practice. As we strive to follow Jesus, our aim should be to live well and to do good always, because that is the only way that we are going to receive glory, honour and peace as our reward from Him.

We must not pass Judgement on others and condemn them, when we ourselves are guilty of the same sin. Our effort should be to take opportunity of the grace that God gives and repent of our sins so that we shall find mercy and salvation. Judgement belongs to God, because He knows us well more than we know ourselves and will render to every person according to his or her works. If we do good, goodness and eternal life shall be our reward, but if we persevere in evil and wickedness, then we are going to experience wrath and fury.*_

We leave judgement for God because we could be bias and rash when we judge and sometimes our judgement is full of partiality and it favours one over another. However, God is just and He can never be partial. His judgement is right and He knows us through and through. He can see what we cannot see. He shows us kindness, not because He wants us to remain in sin, but for us to change and become better people for Him.

Our aim everyday is to strive not to be like the Pharisees who focus on the externals and try to show off in the eyes of the people that they are good, but they lay so much burdens on others, and the things they ask the people to do they can never do. Before we can have the moral authority to evaluate and pass judgement on others we must be sure that we are not guilty of the same crime we condemn them for. We must always look inward and see how we can make amends in our shortcomings and become better disciples of Jesus.

Jesus in His words today in the gospel reading hit back and pronounced woe to the Pharisees because of their attitude. They lay so much burdens on the people and yet, they do not do a little of what they ask others to do. They teach others to keep the law, but the they break it recklessly. They know the law, but they find away around it to twist it to their own advantage. We must not be like them, instead, we should always do good so that when the Lord comes, He will reward us with eternal glory.

Everyday should be an opportunity for us to make effort to become better disciples both for God and humanity, we must strive to do God's will and show mercy and love to the weak as we expect to receive same from God in our times of weakness. God expects us to aim for holiness of life always and to be a shinning example to others, we must not take advantage of people or try to be who we are not. Our action always should flow from love and mercy and in that way we will encourage and inspire the weak ones among us to become strong.
