A WORD FOR TODAY 17 DEC 2018

Today we begin the second phase of our preparation for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and the readings prepare us more directly about the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In the first reading we see how Jacob who was the son of Isaac called his children together and blessed them and he made a prophetic statement that the scepter and ruler's staff shall not depart from Judah until the one to whom it belongs comes and to Him shall be the obedience of the people.

As parents we must learn to bless our children and not curse them, because the blessings we give to them shall bring them good and also bring good to those who come around them.

In the gospel reading of today the Evangelist Mathew traces the origin of Christ. This is to show that He did not fall from the sky but has a root that could be traced to His ancestors beginning from Abraham through Isaac, Jacob, Judah, David and so on.

This genealogy highlights that man in the beginning was born great (tracing it from Abraham to David) and at a time he fell from his greatness (deportation in to Babylon) and God in His infinite mercy did not allow Him to die in sin but sent His only begotten Son to come to redeem humanity.(Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ)

The fact that the names of women who could be regarded as sinners and non Jews were mentioned in the lineage of our Lord Jesus Christ shows us that He has come with love to change what has not been done well before. He has come both for the Jews and gentiles, male and female, saints and sinners. He chooses the worst sinners and brings the best out of them.

It is our duty to welcome Christ who is to be born for us and to let Him have a place in our heart so that He will continue to bless us and we in turn will be a blessing to others in His name.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊and do have a fantastic day and new week ahead. May Jesus make use of you inspite of your unworthiness to bring good to our world. Amen. And May the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: Genesis 49:2,8-10/Psalm 72:1-4,7-8,17/Matthew 1:1-17

Watch-Word: In his days justice shall flourish and great peace forever!

The coming of our Lord Jesus Christ is a blessing to our world and may I be ready and willing to share His blessings with everyone. Amen.
