A WORD FOR TODAY

PRAY WELL AND GOD WILL ANSWER YOU

“And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you."(Matthew 6:5-6)

Prayer is the means through which we communicate with God. In prayer we praise, honour, adore and worship Him. We also present our needs and those of others to Him through prayers. Infact, it is noted that the person who can pray and pray well can overcome and conquer every situation that comes his or her way.

When we pray, we need to be clear about what we are asking for and make sure it is in line with God’s will. It is only in this way that our prayer will be answered and we shall receive what we pray for. He who prays well will definitely find answers, because God is ready to give us what we ask if it is in accordance with His will.

In the first reading of today we see Elijah tell Elisha to make his request known. Elisha knew what he wanted and he asked for double portion of Elijah's anointing. He persevered and followed Elijah until when He received what he prayed for. When we pray, we must back up our prayer with action and we shall find the answers we need.

The gospel reading of today reminds us of the three fundamental basic principles of our Christian faith. If these christian practices are going to bear fruits in our lives, we must not use it as a means to show off or blow our trumpet, but it must be carried out in such a manner that it will bring glory to the name of God. We must avoid as much as we can anything that will make us practice almsgiving, fasting and prayer in a manner that it becomes only a formality and not something that brings glory to God. They are all important for our spiritual Upliftment.

We pray everyday, but if we do not pray well in accordance with God's will, our prayer will not be answered. Prayer is the key and anyone who values prayer will always overcome the challenges of life. We commune with God through prayer and when we apply fasting and almsgiving with it, it will make it reach God faster and we shall also receive a response from Him.

Do not pray to show off or to massage your ego. Do not pray to let the people know how powerful and spiritually gifted you are. Be humble when you pray and let God know about the needs of your heart secretly and your Father who sees all that is done in secret will reward you, bless you and answer your prayers.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a splendid day. May Jesus hear the prayers you offer and may He grant your good heart desire. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: 2 Kings 2:1, 6-14/Psalm 31:20,-24/Matthew 6:1-6,16-18
