*A WORD FOR TODAY

*JESUS PROVIDES FOR OUR NEEDS

_“They all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children.” (Matthew 14:20-21)_

_*Today we read about the feeding of over five thousand people in the gospel and what immediately comes to mind is that Jesus is fully able to supply all our needs. Just five loaves and two fish were available, yet out of these there was abundance and the leftovers filled twelve baskets.*_

_The bread and fish were given out of the generosity of a little boy, and Jesus used it to satisfy the needs of all the people. We too can be used as instruments to satisfy the needs of others, and we can do this by our openness, generosity and sensitivity to the needs of those around us._

_*Contrast the attitude of the crowd which Jesus fed in the gospel passage with the attitude of the children of Israel in the first reading. While the former ate and were satisfied, the latter began to complain and groan for meat, calling the manna that God had provided them a worthless food to be loathed and looked at. We must learn to appreciate the good deeds done to us by others and be thankful for the many blessings and miracles that we receive from God on a daily basis. Contentment is the key to a happy living.*_

_I encourage you today to place all your trust in Jesus, he knows what you need, what you desire most and he is more than able to satisfy you. Trust in him, come to him and be thankful to him.*_

*The Lord knows our needs and he can provide them for us, do not be afraid to come to him, do not hesitate to ask for his blessings.*
