A WORD FOR TODAY

THE IMMACULATE HEART OF THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY, LOVES LIKE THE SACRED HEART OF JESUS.

"And he said to them, how is it that you sought me? Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house? And they did not understand the saying which he spoke to them. And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart."(Luke 2:49-51)

Today the Church celebrates the memorial of the Immaculate heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. One could be wondering why the memorial comes up immediately after the celebration we had yesterday of the Sacred heart of Jesus. This is because the Sacred heart of Jesus and the immaculate heart of Mary are inseparable.

We see in the gospel reading of today how the parents of Jesus searched for Him in love after he stayed behind at the end of the feast. When they found Him, they were very happy and after reminding them that He was doing His Father's business, He still followed them in obedience and returned to Nazareth. And the Scripture said that our Mother Mary kept all these things that happened in her heart._

Our Mother Mary learnt from Jesus what it means to love and she also spent her life in love for the good of others just as Jesus gave His life for us. She is humble, gentle and pure in heart and if we stay close to her and consecrate ourselves to her immaculate heart, we shall learn from her to love and care for others as she cares for us her children.

She suffered for the sake of Christ, but she persevered and remained steadfast until the end. She stood by Jesus and never abandoned him even when the going became tough and today she is in heaven as the greatest intercessor obtaining for her children here on earth through her maternal assistance the grace and favours that they seek.

The immaculate heart of Mary is filled with love and as her children, we must love others and care for them as she takes care of us. We must strive everyday to emulate her virtues of honesty, pure devotion and honour to God, silence, steadfastness, generousity. We must cherish her and always listen to her guidance. Our Mother Mary was with Jesus from birth to His death, therefore, if we stay close to her immaculate heart she will also accompany us with her grace in our life's journey and we will overcome.

The Immaculate heart of Mary is a place you can run into and find the help you need in your difficult times. Never fail to give honour to the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Lord has honoured her.
