A WORD FOR TODAY 21 JANUARY 2022

*A WORD FOR TODAY*

*DO GOOD TO THOSE WHO HURT YOU*

_"And afterward David’s heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul’s skirt. 6 He said to his men, The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my lord, the Lord’s anointed, to put forth my hand against him, seeing he is the Lord’s anointed.”(1 Samuel 24:5-6)_

_*There are things in life that you cannot predict how it will go or what will be the outcome in the end. Sometimes you will be so kind to people and treat them well, but they will still treat you badly or try to cause you harm.*_

_Sometimes the negative perception they have about you is simply as a result of what people said about you and how they have 'painted' you evil in their eyes and without investigating it they will now treat you as an enemy._

_*We see in the first reading of today how Saul tried to kill David, but when the opportunity was presented to David to be the one to kill Saul, he chose not to inspite of all the persuasion from his men. Someone will say, instead they will kill me, let me be the one to kill them, but Jesus will teach us in the Scriptures to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us(Matthew 5:44). This looks like a difficult law to keep and something very hard to do, but that is the way to go if you want to be like our master Jesus Christ.*_

_People can hurt us and sometimes they will treat us wickedly and badly for no just cause, the easiest way would have been to pay them back in their own coin, but that is not what God has taught us in Christ. We could see that even David has fear and respect for God and His anointed and He let God be the judge between Him and Saul._

_*We must be careful who we listen to and who advises us. If we do not let God's spirit guide us we could easily pay back evil with evil when people push us to exert revenge and we will fail to be like Christ who forgave those who killed Him on the cross.*_

_David did what was right before God and God blessed him and made Saul to appreciate him the more. Vengeance belongs to God, always be willing and ready to listen to His voice and be rest assured that He will not lead you astray. Jesus in the gospel prayed and made the choice of his disciples, let us learn from Him and pray and seek God's face in everything we do so that we will always do the right thing._

_*Today we celebrate the memorial of St. Agnes, virgin and martyr. She gave her life to Jesus at a very tender age. She was pure and could not allow herself to be violated at the age of twelve. She died for Christ and she is the Patron of purity and of young girls. Let us learn from her to be holy and to draw others to God.*_

_Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have lovely day. May Jesus give you the grace to pay back evil with good. Amen. *And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.*_

*Meditation:* 1 Samuel 24:2-20/Psalm 57:2-4,6,11/Mark 3:13-19/

*Watch-Word:* Have mercy on me, God have mercy.

*Vengeance belongs to God, let Him be the one to answer those who have hurt you.*
