A WORD FOR TODAY

There is need for us to place our trust in God, because it is only in Him shall our soul be satisfied. Whatever you place your trust in controls what happens in you. The prophet Jeremiah in the first reading reminds us to place our trust in the Lord instead of in man so that our life will be blessed.

To trust in man is like putting our hearts in riches. It blinds us and will make us to become selfish and wicked and we will not be able to do charity and help those in need.

The parable of the rich man and Lazarus is one that speaks to us today of the need to place out trust in the Lord. It is not a parable to condemn being rich, but one that reminds us that we must be ready to use our wealth to do charity and help the needy and in that way we will inherit eternal life.

To put our trust in the Lord always is to remain focused on what our mission here on earth is all about. It helps us to do God's will and by so doing we win a place for ourselves in His kingdom. Man can fail, trusting in riches and wealth can fail, friends and family members can fail us, but God will never fail those who trust in Him.

Do good with what you have now to those who are in need and when you are in need you will also get help from the Lord. The Lord wants us to help the poor and the needy. Do not close your eyes to their cry and situations, instead help them as much as you can and your place in heaven will be assured.
