A WORD FOR TODAY 22 AUGUST 2019

A WORD FOR TODAY

We are always given an invitation by the Lord to draw closer to Him, but He can never force us to do it, however, it is something we must do out of our own volition. The Lord calls but how we respond to His call will depend on our personal choice.

We see in the gospel reading that those who were invited to the kings banquet had different excuses why they cannot come to the feast and as a result of that the king has to give instruction for the servants to go out on the street and fill up the hall with people.

When we refuse to welcome Jesus in our heart we represent those who were invited, but they fail to attend. But if we open our heart and let Him come in and dwell in us, we shall be like those who were invited and they honoured the invitation. We cannot continue to claim that God is our Father when we do not make effort to honour Him with our faithfulness and commitment.

The Jews refused God's invitation, because they felt that the Messiah should be only for them and the feast will be prepared for them alone, but God's love and mercy is for all and that is why the invitation was extended to the gentiles too and as many that accepted the invitation will definitely have a place at the banquet.

God has given us the invitation to come serve Him and to do His will everyday. We must not let our business, work and other activities stop us from doing God's work, worshipping or praying to Him. We must strive to be faithful to our commitments to the Lord like Jephthah in the first reading who made a vow to the Lord and kept it even when it cost him his dearly beloved daughter.

We must not let our possessions, friendship or achievements in life stop us from giving God the best of our time and attention. Nothing should take the place of God in our lives. God should always come first while other things will follow. We must be faithful to God as we accept His invitation to follow Him and to serve Him and in this way we shall be ready to to attend the feast of God in heaven.

Today we celebrate the memorial of Our Lady Queen and Mother. Our Lady is a mother not just to Jesus her Son and the king of the universe, but also to us who are the children of God. She is queen conformed after the image of her Son the king. She is a queen and Mother who shows us the way to the heart of her Son and she is always ready to help us walk the path of righteousness. We must learn from her virtues to remain faithful to God in our promises and vows as she did, so that when the time comes we shall receive our own honour and reward from God.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a wonderful day. May God's grace help you to always be ready to answer His call and to do His will. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: Judges 11:29-39/Psalm 40:5,7-10/Matthew 22:1-14

Watch-Word: Here I am Lord, I come to do your will

You have the freedom to make a choice in life, however, let God come first in your plan before any other thing.
