A WORD FOR TODAY  29th July 2018

When Elisha told the servant to share the gift of the bread to the people to eat, he doubted whether it will be enough for the people, but he never knew that Elijah was acting under God's instruction. He saw the food as little compared to the many people that was to be feed, but he never knew that when God is involved little will become many.

Elijah did not keep the bread to himself. He shared it for the people and in the end because God was involved, there was left over.

Jesus in the gospel reading also was compassionate to the crowd who had been with Him for a long time and he asked the disciples to go get something for them to eat. They became afraid, because in their mind, it will be impossible to feed that multitude with just five loaves and two fish which the little boy has generously given.

We must learn to look not at the difficulties or circumstances that confront us, but at the greatness of our God who can make our little effort to turn to something great.

Jesus is concerned about our needs and He has the power to do something to change our situation, however we must play our part for the miracle to happen. We must give our little with faith and God will transform it for us.

When we do what we can, God will do what we cannot. Therefore, there is need for us to strive everyday to be generous and kind with the little we have so that through our generousity those who do not have will have something to eat, a place to stay and something to wear.

We must not be selfish but selfless, we must not be wasteful but should utilise everything at our disposal to continue to change lives. That little food or drink you want to throw away, that used shoe or cloth you want to destroy could save a life somewhere. Therefore, now is not the time to hoard things, but time to see how what we possess no matter how insignificant it is could be of help to those in need.

Give your little, like the little boy for a good cause and God will definitely turn your little to many. Never allow stinginess and greediness stop you from recognising the greatness of the God who can use your little gift and treasure to make things surplus for those in need.
