A WORD FOR TODAY

Today we celebrate the feast of the apostle Thomas. He was one of the twelve that Jesus called and gave the responsibility to go out to the whole world and proclaim the Good News. He did not choose himself, but was chosen by Christ and he made himself available and Jesus used Him to do great things in the Church.

Faith is a supernatural gift of God which enables us to believe without doubt whatever God has revealed. Our faith in God is meant to be growing everyday if we stay close to Him and learn from Him.

We could say that Thomas doubted what was true, but he was only being human and being himself. For Jesus to give him a second chance to experience what the other disciples experienced on His first visit shows how much He loved him and wants him to grow in his faith._ _*We must use every opportunity we get in life to grow in our faith in such a way that we will be disposed to let God make use of us as a channel through which other people will come to learn about Him and grow in their faith too.

In our times of pain we must not try to isolate ourselves from the community as Thomas did. He sought loneliness instead of being together with the other apostles and that cost him. We must always strive to be connected to God so that we do not miss the blessings He has prepared for us.

Thomas refused to accept that he understood what he did not understand and that is honesty, however, after his experience with Jesus he now followed Him and confessed His name until his death. We must be honest in following Jesus and it will help us to grow in our faith. Trust is God always for blessed are those have not seen and yet believe.
