A WORD FOR TODAY

When you set out on a journey you must prepare well or you will not be able to get to your destination. The mission of following Jesus is one that requires some element of discipline, focus, detachment and commitment. If you are not ready to toe this line, then you will not be able to answer a disciple of Jesus.

Following Jesus comes at a cost and only those who are ready and willing to pay the price will be able to represent Him. If you must follow Jesus you must be ready to leave your old way of life behind and accept the new life that He offers, the two cannot go together and to want to combine the old and the new will lead to disaster.

The example of Elisha in the first reading of today is something we can emulate, because when the mantle was placed upon him as a sign that he has been chosen by God as a prophet, he detached himself from everything he used to do before in order to focus on the new assignment that God has given to him.

If we are going to follow Jesus we must be ready to let go of other attachments that may obstruct us giving ourselves totally to Him. We cannot follow Him partially, but with total attention and concentration. You must give up your old way of life that is not in consonant with the Christian principle of new life.

To follow Jesus we will encounter the cross and we must he ready to carry it until the end. We will go to proclaim the Good News and sometimes people will reject our message and we may suffer tribulations, however if we persevere till the end we shall receive eternal reward from the Father.

When we disconnect our heart from frivolities and sinful habits and attitudes, we will be able to think well and see well so as to make the urgent and serious decision to follow Christ and not look back anymore. We cannot be going backwards if we are in Christ, it should be forward ever and backward never.

Our attachment must be to God and the things of God so that we will be able to please Him and receive blessings from Him. We must live a new life in Christ guided by the Holy Spirit as saint Paul admonishes us in the second reading of today and in that way we will be ready to do God's work with love without looking back.

God is inviting us everyday to come follow Him and if we are to answer His call we must not give room for any excuses to arise in our heart. Leave everything and follow Him and you will gain everything in the end. Leave Him and chase every other thing and you will lose everything in the end. Now is the time to make the decision to follow Jesus without looking back and you will definitely receive your reward on the last day.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you begin your day and do have a blessed Sunday. May nothing hold you back from saying yes to God's invitation to come and follow Him. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: 1 Kings 19:16,19-21/Psalm 16:1-2,5,7-11/Galatians 5:1,13-18/Luke 9:51-62

Watch-Word: I will follow you Lord, wherever you go.

Jesus is calling us everyday and if we must answer His call we must be ready to detach ourselves from anything that will make us not to follow Him well.
