A WORD FOR TODAY

HUMILITY AND GREATNESS

There are different ways and standards by which people measure and determine the one who is great, those who focus their mind on the kingdom of this earth will always fight against each other to seek for the highest place of honour, but God's way of measuring greatness is just by humility and by being ready to serve others especially those who have nothing and who occupy no place of honour.

If we are going to be counted as great in the sight of Jesus, we must be ready to lay down our lives in service as a ransom for others. We must lay down our lives as Christ laid down His life for us. He put His glory aside, emptied himself and took the form of a servant and became obedient even unto death. (Philippians 2:6-11) We must be ready to go the extra mile to do good to others even at our own inconvenience for the sake of Christ and without seeking any material reward in return.

God is the one who has called us to come work for Him, and if we recognise this fact, we are going to do our work with humility knowing that we are unworthy, but He has chosen us out of love to do the things He has assigned us to do. In the end we shall be rewarded just as Christ was rewarded if we stay through till the end.

Every position or status we attain or occupy in life must be seen from the angle of responsibility and not honour. If we view it from the former, we are going to do more good to the people and follow the example of Jesus who became the light that others could see in His own time. He showed people the way to God and He sacrificed His life in order to set us free.

Whenever we do things out of pride, we tend to lose the blessings that comes with serving God in the people without any interest attached. To blow our trumpet and sing our own praises will always come at a cost, that is, that praise will be the only reward we will get and it ends here on earth.

Humility is a virtue any serious follower of Christ must put on as a garment on a daily basis. It is a virtue that will make us be like Jesus at all times and in all places. When you are humble you make God happy, because the world may not know you or acknowledge the efforts and sacrifices you are making to make others happy, but God takes note of them and He will definitely reward you.

Greatness in the sight of God comes with willingness and readiness to serve others especially those who will not be able to pay you back. You will serve them and be ready to die for them, but in the end God will be your reward and His reward will be of much value and importance than any other you would have received from the people.

Today we celebrate the memorial of saint Jerome (340-420) He is well know for His statement that, 'ignorance of the Scripture is ignorance of God' He translated the Bible into Latin and wrote a lot of commentaries that is still helping people to learn and study the Bible. We must learn from him to let God make use of us in anyway He wants for the good of the people.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a blessed New Week. May grace of humility be upon you so that the things you say and do will bring glory and honour to God. Amen. *And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: Zechariah 8:1-8/Psalm 102:16-23,29/Luke 9:46-50

Watch-Word: The Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Humility is the sure way to be great in the sight of God. Be humble and you will be great and God will lift you up.
