A WORD FOR TODAY

TRUE GREATNESS COMES WITH HUMILITY

"Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout aloud, O daughter of Jerusalem! Lo, your king comes to you; triumphant and victorious is he, humble and riding on an ass, on a colt the foal of an ass."(Zechariah 9:9)_

The prophet Zechariah in the first reading of today speaks about the King who will come in the future and He will be triumphant and victorious and will bring peace to the people. It is a prophecy that will be fulfilled in the New dispensation in Jesus who is the Prince of Peace.

Everything about this prophecy points to Jesus. In humility He came to the world in order to save us. He is the prince of peace. He is great, but He became humble in obedience to the Father's will and as a result of His Humble obedience to the Father, He is highly exalted and given the name which is above every other name.(Philippians 2:6-11)

If you aim for greatness in life and if you want to be like Jesus, you must definitely be humble in character and attitude. True greatness comes with humility and if you cannot humble yourself, you cannot be like Jesus and if you cannot not be like Jesus, you cannot be great. To be great in the sight of men without humility is simply the easiest way to be a nobody in the sight of God.(Matthew 18:2-4)

In order to be humble you must make the decision to put to death in your mortal body, the deeds of the flesh as saint Paul admonishes us in the second reading of today, and by so doing, your Spirit will shine and you will be ready to live a life that will impact the people positively._

To follow Jesus we must be childlike and we must be ready to learn from Him to be gentle and lowly in heart and to make sacrifices not just for ourselves, but more importantly for the good of others. We must respond to His invitation to come to Him so that we will find the rest we need. In our moments of pain and sorrow, in our moments of anxiety, panic and stress, in our times of sickness and depression, when the burden of life becomes heavy on us, we must remember that we have Jesus who can help us if we humble ourselves and come to Him with faith.

Be humble and gentle, draw closer to Jesus, he will teach you His ways, make your burden light and give you power to become great in peace and joy, holiness, compassion, prayer and in generousity and so on. We must draw closer to Jesus today and He will make all things well for us. Remember, true greatness does not lie in what you possess by way of cars, jewelleries, money, houses, status and positions, rather, it comes with the ability to be humble and to be ready to use what you possess to make a positive impact in people.

Watch-Word: Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

To be humble is to be like Jesus, but to be proud is to be like the evil one. Remain humble always and God will lift you up in His own time.
