A WORD FOR TODAY 9 JUNE 2020

A WORD FOR TODAY

BE GENEROUS AND SHINE AS THE LIGHT ALWAYS

"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hid. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a bushel, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven."(Matthew 5:14-16)

Darkness is something that any reasonable person will not want to be associated with except the persons whose mind has been distorted by those who are agents of darkness. To be in the dark when others around you have light in their homes for instance, is something that can make you sad and even lead to depression. However, our focus is on the spiritual light

Jesus in the gospel reading reminds us that we are the light of the world and the salt of the earth. We must shine as the light so that the world will see through our light. It will be an irony to claim to be in Christ and still remain in darkness. Jesus is the light and anyone who follows Him will never walk in darkness.

To be in the light is to live a life that impacts positively on others. You must uphold the values of faith, sincerity, joy, peace, equity, unity, sacrifice, mercy and forgiveness. You will represent Christ well and those who encounter you will have something positive to say about you.

One of the ways to show that we are children of the light is to be generous with what we have. We see in the first reading of today how the widow of Zarephath gave food to Elijah from the little she had to live on and her giving opened doors of abundance for her. We can never be poor by helping others who are in need, because God loves a cheerful giver and when you give your time, treasure and talent for the good of others you light up the heart of the people to do good also to others who come to them. Our light will shine more when we are not stingy with what we have, but make use of it to help others who may be in need like the widow of Zarephath did to Elijah and as a result of her action, the jar of meal in her home was not spent and the pitcher of oil did not fail.

Let your light shine everywhere you are, in the Church, market, office, street, home, communities and so on. Our true identity as Christians is to be the light and the salt of the earth. We will bring goodness to the earth and people through our good actions will give glory to the Father.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a magnificent day. May Jesus help you to always be the light and salt of the earth and may His grace abide in your heart forever. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

MEDITATION: 1 kings 17:7-16/Psalm 4:2-8/Matthew 5:13-16

Watch-Word: Let your light shine before men.

The power to shine as the light is in you, therefore, never stop shinning because someone may need your light to see and return back to God.
