TASTE AND SEE THAT THE LORD IS GOOD

(Wednesday May 1, 2019 The Memorial of Saint Joseph the Worker)

The divine mandate given to the disciples to go out to the whole world to preach the Good News to all creatures was not an easy task indeed. To fulfil this mandate implies a strong faith on the part of the disciples, patience, perseverance, courageousness, faith and prayerfulness. The building of the legacy the early Church left for us was built on their collective efforts and their strong faith in God. God never abandoned them even when the going was tough for them.

The disciples never gave up but placed all their trust in God. The first reading of today presents us with some tips of the hardships, threats, suppression and intimidation the early Christians went through. But in the midst of all these challenges to preaching the Good News, the apostles and their new converts never slacked in their faith rather such persecutions contributed immensely in strengthening their faith in God and the joy of preaching the crucified Christ with every amount of boldness and courageousness!

The miracle of today of how the Angel of God rescued the disciples from the hands of the Jewish authorities is just a sign of how God always sends His Angels to be in charge of us, to protect and to console us when we are facing it hard of living our faith or manifesting our Christian vocation in the midst of those that hate us. In the gospel of today, Christ made it known to Nicodemus the extent of God’s love to humanity to the extent of giving His Only Son to die in order that we may have life in abundance.

This life in abundance is for those who accept Christ because accepting Him means accepting life. Whoever accepts life in Christ walks in the light, not in the darkness. Christ has it that men have shown that they prefer darkness to light because their deeds were evil. He goes on to say that anyone who does wrong hates the light and avoids it for fear that his/her action should be exposed but that the person who lives by the truth comes into the light so that it be plainly seen that what he does/she does is done in God. Christ also pointed it out to Nicodemus that no one who believes Him who will be condemned and whoever refuses to believe is already condemned because he/she refused to believe in the name of God’s Only Son.

Therefore, brothers and sisters since Christ has given us the key to approach Him, let us not delay to make use of this divine invitation because He is the way, the truth and the life and whoever finds Him, finds the truth, the way and life.

Let Us Pray: Lord Jesus, help me to follow you with faith. May I continue to proclaim your name everywhere without fear. Amen.
