A WORD FOR TODAY

THE BLESSED VIRGIN MARY 'S INTERCESSION IS POTENT

_"Now when they had departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said, “Rise, take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt, and remain there till I tell you; for Herod is about to search for the child, to destroy him.”(Matthew 2:13)_

_*Today we celebrate the Solemnity of Our Lady Queen and patroness of Nigeria. It is a day we remember that Nigeria and the Nigerian Church were consecrated into the Immaculate heart of our Lady as her patroness and the one whom they will have recourse to at all times for her maternal intercession.*_

_It is also the day that our country Nigeria celebrates 60 years as an independent nation. It should ordinarily be a day of happiness and joy, but the challenges of the time and the incessant difficulties and distress we face in this country as a free nation seems to dampen the mood and make people to ask if there is any need to celebrate where we are a country that is richly blessed by God, but we have not been able to harness this richness for the good of all._

_*The prophet Isaiah describes in the first reading of today of a state where everything in existence is at peace with one another and the Son of man our Lord Jesus Christ shall be the one to rule all in righteousness.*_

_Such moment of peace and tranquility has eluded us for a long time, but we must never give up, instead we should continue to play a positive part in helping to make our nation great again by doing those things that will bring glory to God and impact meaningfully on the people. Both the leaders and the led have significant roles to play if things are going to change in this country._

_*In the gospel reading we see how the angel instructed Joseph to take Mary and Jesus and go to Egypt when there was a threat to their lives. In the course of this movement, Our Lady was taking care of Jesus as a son so that no harm will come upon him. It was a difficult time in their life as a family, but the Lord was with them and they overcame their challenges.*_

_We must constantly seek her maternal intercession in our lives journey, because it is very powerful and can change situations. She obtains for us from God what will bring us happiness and we must never fail to seek for her help in our life as the Church in Nigeria has done._

_*Jesus is there for us and Our Lady is also there for us, through Our Lady we can make our worries known to Jesus and He can never refuse any petition or request that comes from her. Love Our Lady and honour her today and always with the prayer of your Rosary and purity of life and you will experience God's glory in your life. The month of October is the time we pray our Rosary in her honour, let us pray it with devotion and we shall receive blessings from God through her intercession which has efficacious and powerful effects in our lives.*_

_Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a great day and a blessed new month. May God answer you as you honour our Lady through your Rosary in this month. Amen. *And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.*_

*Meditation:* Isaiah 11:1-10/Psalm 72:1-2,7-8,12-13,17/Ephesians 2:13-22/
Matthew 2:13-15,19-23

*Watch-Word:* Behold I am the handmaid of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.

*Pray your Rosary always and you will enjoy the efficacious maternal intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary.*

(Thursday of the twenty sixth week in the ordinary time, year II. Solemnity of Our Lady Queen and Patroness of Nigeria.)

*Happy Independence day to all Nigerians all over the world and Happy New Month of October.*
