A WORD FOR TODAY

FOLLOW THE RIGHT PATH AND DO THE RIGHT THING

“Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them. For truly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the law until all is accomplished"(Matthew 5:17-18)_

Human beings as creatures of God are created with free will which helps them to make a choice of what they want. Choice between light and darkness, good and evil, obedience and disobedience and so on. God does not force us to do what He wants, but He lays it down for us to follow as the good way that will lead to life, however if we choose not to follow his path and go our own way, He will not be blamed for whatever the outcome may be.

When God gave the ten commandments to Moses in the Old Testament, it was not to punish humanity, but to help the people live well and orderly and to have life. Laws are meant to help us live well and be good citizens of the earth and also to do the things that will please God and help us to be good children in the world.

Jesus tells us in the gospel reading that He has not come to abolish the law, but to fulfil it. Therefore, it means that Jesus came to show us what is the true meaning of the law which will be to do God's will at all time. If we love God we must follow the right path and do the right thing and we shall find eternal life. We must do what the law of the Lord says always without compromise. We must not just obey the letter of the law, but more importantly the spirit of the law.

Elijah in the first reading made the decision to stand with God and God stood with Him and in the end he came out victorious over the prophets of baal. He chose God, the living God and obeyed His commands and God answered Him when He needed Him most. We must learn to choose God always, follow the right path and do the right thing at all times and in that way we will be children of our Father who is in heaven.

Knowing the law without doing what the law says is as good as not knowing it at all. We must keep the law of the Lord so as to be happy in this life and in the world to come. If we know the law and do what it says we shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, make the choice to follow the right path in life and to do the right thing and you will be the best in the sight of God.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊 as you do your work and do have a splendid day. May Jesus give you the grace to do what the law of the Lord says always. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
