*A WORD FOR TODAY*

*STAY CLOSE TO GOD AND YOU WILL HEAR HIS VOICE*

_"the lamp of God had not yet gone out, and Samuel was lying down within the temple of the Lord, where the ark of God was. Then the Lord called, Samuel! Samuel! and he said, Here I am! and ran to Eli, and said, “Here I am."(1 Samuel 3:3-4)_

_*Before we were formed in our mothers womb, God already knows us(Jeremiah 1:5) and He has made a plan for our life, but we must cooperate with Him and walk in His ways for us to actualize our mission and purpose here on earth.*_

_Hannah prayed to have a son, but she made a vow to give him back to the Lord. Samuel was born and she fulfilled her vow to the Lord. Today we see the call of Samuel in the temple as he was lying near the Ark of the Covenant._

_*God chose him to become a prophet, but when he was called he was a neophyte and could not recognize the voice of God until Eli guided him to say, speak Lord for your servant is listening.*_

_God is constantly calling us, but we can only hear His voice when we stay close to Him and become attentive. Samuel stayed close to the Lord and He was able to hear His voice. If we drift far away from the Lord, it will be very difficult for us to hear his voice because of the noise of the world._

_*Eli guided Samuel to respond to God's call and so we must guide others to hear God's voice and to be able to follow His path. Just as Samuel heard God's voice in silence, we must develop the habit, attitude and culture of spending quality time in the presence of God in silence as Jesus did also in the gospel reading. In this way we will always know what the Lord is saying and what He wants us to do at any point in time.*_

_God has a mission for you in this life, but if you do not stay close to Him, it will be extremely difficult for you to hear and respond when He calls. It is like tuning into the frequency of a radio, the right frequency makes you hear the voice loud and clear, but the wrong frequency will always be distorted. Therefore, tune your heart signal to the right frequency of silence and drawing closer to Jesus in the sacrifice of the mass and in the blessed Sacrament and you will hear Him and know what He wants you to do for Him._
