A WORD FOR TODAY

YOU ARE PLANTED TO BLOSSOM AND FLOURISH

"Other seeds fell on good soil and brought forth grain, some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. He who has ears, let him hear." (Matthew 13: 8-9)

When a farmer goes to the farm to plant the seeds, he goes with hope that the seeds will do well after planting and that he will have a bountiful harvest. However, for that to happen, certain conditions has to be met with regard to the nature of the land, weather, and the specie of seed that is planted.

The first reading of today from the prophecy of Isaiah speaks about how God's word which goes out of his mouth will not return back to Him empty, but will definitely accomplish that which it intends to achieve. God does not promise and fail, if He says He will do it, He must surely do it. The word is the seed that is planted in our hearts and if we let it take root in us, we shall bear fruits in plenty for the Lord, but if we block it off, it will not germinate and we shall remain stagnant.

Just like the sower in the gospel reading, God has planted us a seed here on earth. The nature of our heart will determine who and what we shall become. It is not actually the seed that matter, but the soil. If your heart is good like the good soil, you will bear beautiful fruits of love, joy, compassion, faithfulness, peace, generousity, forgiveness and so on, but if your heart is bitter, wicked and hardened like the rocky ground filled with torns which choke it up, you will definitely bear no fruits, and if you bear any, it will not be good for human consumption.

You have been planted here on earth like a seed and you are to blossom and flourish. If you are not doing that already, then something is wrong and you must identify the problem; who, what and where or person, place and things, fix it up immediately and begin to bear good fruits for God and humanity.

You can bear good fruits if you let the word of God dwell richly in you, and for that to happen you must open your mind, have a listening ear, create quality time to read, study and meditate on God's word and then try as much as you can to put into practice what you read and study.

You can blossom and flourish if you learn to detach yourself from the material things of life and try to apply and use your energy and strength on the things that will make you shine out as the light in the world.

The essence of bearing fruits for Christ is for us to be able to to enjoy the glory that will be revealed at the end of time as Saint Paul tells us in the second reading. Therefore, feed your soul with good nutrients, by way of God's word and you will have the grace to to shine out, blossom and flourish in any place where you are, in the school, at work, in the market, in the Church and even in the community where you dwell.
