A WORD FOR TODAY

CALLED TO PROCLAIM THE GOOD NEWS

There is one thing that is very peculiar about God, He cares for us like no other person would and He gives us opportunity to do things for Him for our own good. When Jesus was in the world He did a lot of work by way of teaching and proclamation of the Good News and in the end He gave His disciples the opportunity to continue in the work of proclaiming the message of salvation._

In the gospel reading of today we see Jesus call Simon and Andrew, James and John to come follow Him. Immediately they received the invitation from Him, they wasted no time, but left everything and followed Him. Yes, they were good fishermen, but Jesus is calling them for a higher responsibility where they will now become fishers of men.

God is calling us to come help proclaim the Good News of salvation, but we must first answer His call without giving excuse. We must let go of other attachments that will make us to be unfit for this task. If those who were called gave excuses, they would not be able to do God's work, but they knew that working for and with Jesus was the best and they had to leave everything behind and followed Him.

We all have been called differently but by the same God. We can win souls through our work and activity. All we need to do is to let the Spirit of God guide us and help us to use every opportunity we get to proclaim the Good News, not just in words, but more importantly through our actions. God wants to make use of you, say yes to Him today and let Him do with you whatever He wills.

As we begin the Ordinary time of the Church's calendar, the Lord is calling us to come and work for Him. You must devote time for the things of God and you must allow yourself to be used by God to win more souls into His kingdom. We may not be perfect, but God who calls us will give us the grace to do it well. Do not let anything stop you from responding positively to Jesus' invitation, because in the end you will have the reward of eternal life.

By virtue of our baptism we have all been called and you can do something with your gift and time. We cannot respond in the same way, but there is enough space for everyone in God's vineyard. We must complement each other and keep doing the best we can in our state in life to make God known.

The call to proclaim the gospel is for all and if you give heed to Jesus' invitation, you will do it well. Keep proclaiming Christ everywhere.
