A WORD FOR TODAY

VICTORY FROM THE HOLY CROSS OF JESUS

"He emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross."(Philippians 2:7-8)_

Today we celebrate the feast of the exaltation of the Holy Cross. This is a feast in which the piece of wood on which Christ died is glorified as the instrument of His victory over death. In the time of Christ, nothing good happens on the cross, except curse, pain and torture, but through His death on the cross, He sanctified it and made life and redemption to come from it.

_This feast dates back to the time when the True Cross of Christ was found by emperor Constantine's mother, St. Helena and the subsequent dedication of a basilica on the site at Golgotha in 335. On a day like this in the Eastern Church and Rome the Cross is venerated as a sign of deep honour and respect to our Lord Jesus who has given it to us as a symbol of our faith and salvation._

In the first reading of today we see how the Lord instructed Moses to make a fiery serpent and set it up as a sign so that the children of Israel who sinned against God and were bitten by the serpents could be healed. This act by Moses will become a prefigurement of the cross, because Jesus will make reference to it in the gospel about Himself, "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him may have eternal life"

The beauty of the Holy Cross is that by the death of Jesus upon it we were set free from the dominion of death and eternal damnation. Jesus paid the full price of our redemption by His obedience unto death, even death on a cross as saint Paul tells us in the second reading in his letter to the Philippians, and as a result of this, God has exalted His name above every name and at the mention of the name Jesus, every knee shall bow and every tongue must confess that He is Lord.

Many things happened on the cross when Jesus died on it, He took our curse away and replaced it with a blessing. He obtained for us healing, deliverance, victory, forgiveness, salvation and total freedom. He broke the chains binding us and we are no longer slaves to the devil, but His Sons and daughters.

_As you look at the cross, see what Jesus went through in order to save us and then make a decision not to nail Him on the cross the second time through your disobedience, but to be part of those who will console Him and make reparation for the sins against Him._

_*God gave us His Son Our Lord Jesus out of His love for us so that we will not perish, but to find eternal life by believing in Him. Therefore, come to Him today, confess your faith in Him, He will forgive your sins and you will be saved and the redemptive power of His death on the cross will continue to speak for you and your family.
