A WORD FOR TODAY

HELP OTHERS TO FIND JESUS

_"And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city. And behold, they brought to him a paralytic, lying on his bed;_ and when Jesus saw their faith he said to the paralytic, “Take heart, my son; your sins are forgiven."(Matthew 9: 1-2)_

Sometimes in life we may not be able to help ourselves, but we will need the help of others to stand up and to keep moving. Take for instance, a child that is learning how to walk, she will really need the support of her parents through encouragement until she is able to stand up well and walk.

In the gospel reading of today we see how Jesus healed the paralytic who was brought to Him by some persons in the community as he could not help himself. Their action is a very decisive and encouraging one, because it made the man who was in need to find the help he needed in Christ. Not only that Jesus forgave his sins, healing of the soul, he also rose up, took his bed and walked home, receiving the healing of the body.

As children of God we have the responsibility to help others to find Jesus so that they will get the help they need in their lives, both spiritual and physical. However, for this to happen, the person must be selfless and generous with his time and resources. If these persons who brought him to Jesus were selfish and unconcerned, the paralysed man would have remained in his condition for a long time and could even die of it.

In this age where selfishness and lack of empathy and compassion is making a lot of people not to want to help each other, we must show a good example as followers of Jesus by letting others lean on our shoulders to find the help they need in Jesus. Jesus forgave the sin of the man and healed him. We will find forgiveness and healing from Jesus if we come to Him with faith.

We must grow in our faith always and use it to help others. The man was healed by the faith of his friends. Therefore, we must activate our faith and put it into good use to help others who are in need to find Jesus who is our sure helper at all times. We must not be obstacles to people's progress, just like some of the scribes tried to be in the gospel. In their selfish interest they tried to stop Jesus from saving a soul just as Amazaiah in the first reading of today tried to stop the prophet Amos from speaking the truth to the people.

Jesus is ready to help us if we are ready to come to Him with faith. Use every opportunity you get to draw people closer to Him so that they will find healing, restoration, forgiveness, joy, peace, promotion, deliverance and more importantly salvation of their souls._
