A WORD FOR TODAY
BE COURAGEOUS AND DO THE RIGHT THING ALWAYS
_"And he entered the temple and began to drive out those who sold, saying to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be a house of prayer’; but you have made it a den of robbers.”(Luke 19:45-48)_
_*Courage is mental or moral strength, an attitude of the mind that helps us to stand up to what is right and speak the truth at all times irrespective of who may be involved. It helps us to persevere and withstand danger and difficulty that may come to us in the course of our doing the right thing.*_
_The reaction of Jesus in the gospel reading of today is a courageous act. He knew He was doing the right thing, but not everyone will be happy with His actions, and He went on to chase them out of the temple. This act definitely contributed to why they plotted to destroy Him, but He did not run away, instead, He continued to speak the truth to them._
_*Without courage it will be extremely difficult for one to stand up to speak against injustice in the land. It will be difficult to speak the truth at all times. Where there is no courage, people tend to let evil reign around them and they simply do not do anything to stop it.*_
_The Lord's temple is a place of prayer, but they turned it into a business centre. This is totally wrong and Jesus spoke against it and courageously did something to change it. He was not afraid of death, but knew He was sanitizing a corrupt system._
_*We must learn from Jesus to do the right thing always. It does not matter who is involved, so long as something is wrong, we must speak out and do everything we can to correct it. We may suffer because of it, but God will reward us in the end for doing what is right. We must eat the bitter scroll like saint John in the first reading and then stand out to speak the truth to everyone.*_
