A WORD FOR TODAY

USE WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO GOOD AND YOU WILL BE RICH IN GOD.

We must learn from Abraham in the first reading of today to be people of faith. Our faith should should be firm in God and without doubt, even when what we hope for delays in coming, we must not waver but hold unto God firmly for He is faithful and can never fail.

If we have Faith like Abraham we will be able to live our Christian life in a manner that will be pleasing to the Lord, because without faith it will be impossible to please Him. Our actions should be based on the faith we have and when it flows from our faith in God we will touch lives and bring glory to the name of God.

Jesus used the opportunity of the request made by the man in the crowd to teach His disciples something on selflessness and the need not to place our whole thought and mind on material things, because that is not the source of true happiness._

The Lord warns us of covetousness, that is, inordinate desire for wealth or possession. The man in the parable had abundance, but he wanted to have more for himself without considering to give out to the needy. He was self-centred and aggressively selfish and when demand was made for his soul, all that he had laboured to acquire for himself will not bring him joy or guarantee him a place in God's kingdom.

There is life beyond this life and as such, if we intend to enjoy eternal life in heaven then selflessness is the key. We must be willing to do good with what we have. We must share with those who do not have and be considerate to them. We must give good gifts to others especially the poor who cannot pay us back and in doing so we shall be preparing for ourselves tremendous treasures in heaven.

True happiness does not consist in the amount of what you have or possess, but in how well you make use of your gifts to bring good and joy to others who are in need. When you fail to share your goods with others, you will get suffocated with them and instead of giving you joy, it will bring you pain and unhappiness.

The things of this life will not last, because they are passing away and you will say good bye to them when the time comes, therefore, be wise, be content, be humble and begin to do good with it so that when you leave this earth, the good you have done with them will merit and guarantee you a beautiful, joyful and eternal life in God's presence.

You become rich in the eyes of God when you share what you have with others in need, but you become poor when you do otherwise.
