A WORD FOR TODAY

WORK ON YOURSELF BEFORE YOU CAN WORK ON OTHERS

"Or how can you say to your brother, ‘Let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when there is the log in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye." (Matthew 7:4-5)_

It is always easy to make judgement about others and try to say things about them and sometimes castigate them when you have not been in 'their shoes' or made effort to try to know what could be the reason why they acted the way they did and not the way you would want them to behave.

We are all champions when it comes to observing faults in others and our eyes could see every dot and pin and point it out, but when it comes to noticing our own faults we are totally blind and can easily feign ignorance about it.

Jesus reminds us in the gospel reading of today that if we are going to be able to help others who are weak to become strong, we must first of all work on our weakness so that we will become strong and when we are strong we can now help others who are weak to become strong.

There is no need to form 'holier than thou' in the sight of people who are weak, even when you know that you are guilty of the same sin they may have fallen into. If you truly want to help someone who has committed a sin to change, you must, first, remove the wood in your own eyes, then you will see well and be able to remove the speck in another person's eyes. We must hearken to the voice of God and not be like the people of Israel in the first reading who were disobedient to God after receiving his commandment.

We must learn not to judge, but to leave judgement for God, because He alone sees the depth of every heart and He is the only one who can judge without any element of partiality. We must first spend time to self-examine ourselves and find out where we are not doing well so that we can work on ourselves, change, make amends and become better people. Before you can truly help others, you must work on yourself and when you have done that you will be able to help others. Be truthful to yourself, identify the areas where you are not doing well, change, make amends and you will now have the moral authority to help anyone who may have fallen into sin.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊 as you do your work and do have a blessed new week. May Jesus give you the grace to remain steadfast in following him and may He give you the grace to the truthful. Amen. *And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Meditation: 2 Kings 17:5-8,13-15,18/Psalm 60:3-5,12-14/Matthew 7:1-5

Watch-Word: Judge not and you will not be judged

Change your ways and you will find the spiritual strength to change the ways of others and help them to become better persons.
