A WORD FOR TODAY 23 SEPTEMBER 2019

A WORD FOR TODAY

LET YOUR LIGHT SHINE ALWAYS

Light is powerful, and wherever there is light, darkness are never seen. We see in the gospel reading of today how Jesus reminds His disciples that they are like a lamp that is lit and should be kept on a lamp stand burning brightly so that those in the house will see with it.

Jesus is the light of the world and whoever follows Him will have the light of life and will not walk in darkness (John 8:12) This simply means that if we follow Jesus we are going to be children of the light and through our words and action we will dispel the darkness in the world.

If the light of Christ shines and burns in our heart, we will have no choice but to be the best in the world. It will be seen in the works we do and fruits we bear. We will live in love, be kind to people, speak the truth always, remain faithful and honest, love the things of God and proclaim His name without fear or shame. We will make sacrifices for others and avoid occasions of sin. We will be different and we will not be afraid, because the Lord will take care of us.

What the world offers us is totally different from what the Lord offers and if we choose the world, we shall remain in darkness, but if we choose Christ, we shall come to the light and we in turn will become vessels of light in the world and those who come around us will see the light in us and be transformed.

As children of God we must strive everyday to light up the world with what we say and do. We must not expose ourselves to works of darkness so that it does not neutralise or quench our light. We must live a good and holy life and do only those things that will bring glory to the name of the Lord and good to humanity.

We must shine as the light everywhere, in the house, school, church, market, office, play ground, on the road, social gathering and so on. We must keep shining for Christ who has lit His light in us and we must fly his colour always, that is holiness, truth, justice, love, kindness, meekness, humility, selflessness, gentleness, peace, joy, faith, forgiveness and so on.

One of the ways we shall live in the light is to support God's work everywhere. We must strive to help to build God's house with our generous contribution as we see in the first reading of today, then we must promote and support works of evangelization that impact the life of others especially the poor and the needy.

Today we celebrate the memorial of Saint padre Pio. He was touched by the light of Christ and he went on to become the light in the world, winning souls for Christ and lighting up the life of many who came in contact with him. We must learn from him to be the light always and to refuse to let darkness take hold of us, but to keep spreading God's light in words and deed.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a blessed New week. May the light of God shine around you to protect you from works of darkness. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: Ezra 1:1-6/Psalm 126:1-6/Luke 8:16-18

Watch-Word: Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven._

You are the light of the world, keep shining and do not let anyone or anything quench your glow.
