A WORD FOR TODAY

SING A NEW SONG OF THANKSGIVING TO THE LORD

One of the ways to show gratitude to God for all that He has done in our life, is by praising His name. Today, we see how Zechariah after experiencing the fulfilment of God's promise in His life was moved by the Spirit to sing a song of thanksgiving in appreciation to God for what He has done for him. This song is known as the canticle of Zechariah and it is a song that came from the depth of his heart after moments of silent reflection and quiet time before the Lord.

When you consider the wonders of the Lord and what He has done to save you and redeem you, you will be moved in your heart to sing praises to Him. Giving thanks to God is something we must do on a daily basis, because God's goodness and mercy is something we enjoy everyday and consistently too.

The somg of Zechariah was a prophetic praise that spoke about what the Lord is going to do through His son our Lord Jesus Christ who will be the saviour of the world. He praised the Lord for fulfilling the promise He made to David His servant as we have it recorded in the first reading. The Lord told David that He will raise an offspring from him and establish his kingdom forever. All these promises came to fulfilment in Christ and for this we must be grateful.

There is need for us to take a time and reflect of what the Lord has done for us in Christ Jesus. It will definitely move our heart to sing praises to Him. The song in our heart should always be a song of thanksgiving to the Lord for He alone is the beginning and end of all things that happens in our life. He takes care of us and makes provisions for all our needs and He does not abandon us at any point in time, even when we disappoint Him through our acts of disobedience.

The intention of David in the first reading of today was to build a house to the Lord in appreciation to Him for all that He has received, but instead of him building for the lord, the Lord pronounced and bestowed more blessings on him because of His love. We must always seek to praise the name of the Lord and sing a new song of thanksgiving to Him, for by so doing we will show gratitude to Him for favours and blessings received and it will dispose us to receive more blessings and favours from the Lord.

As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us honour the Lord by preparing our heart to be ready to receive Him and to be ready to praise His name for coming to bring us salvation. We must praise Him. We must sing a new song to Him for all that He has done for us in this year that is ending by way of healing, protection, mercy, forgiveness, provisions, favours, promotion, breakthrough, increase in faith and so on. We must open our heart for the Holy Spirit to come and dwell in us and He will move us to sing a new song of thanksgiving that will be acceptable in the sight of the Lord.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a wonderful day. May the Lord give you the grace to be grateful to Him always and may more blessings and favours be bestowed upon you. Amen. *And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Meditation: 2 Samuel 7:1-5,8-12,14,16/Psalm 89:2-5,27,29/Luke 1:67-79
