A WORD FOR TODAY

The attitude of of the people of Israel to Moses and Aaron in the wilderness as recorded in the first reading of today is one that shows impatience and ungratefulness. They murmured and complained and desired to return back to Egypt and die there. For a little lack they experienced, they forgot all that the Lord has done for them in the past and wanted to return back to slavery.

We must as a people always be content with what we have and also trust God at all times to take care of us and provide for us. However, we must be patient and follow the Lord as He leads us. He knows what we need and He can do all things. There is no need for us to be ungrateful and to keep complaining, instead we should be grateful to Him and have faith that He will always to take care of us.

We can only bear good fruits for God if we let His word have a home in our heart. God's word has been sown, but if we do not have a good disposition to receive it, we will never bear any fruit for Him.

Our aim always should be to have a heart that represents the good soil where whatever seed is planted in us by way of God's word will germinate and grow. The good soil is a heart that is patient, peaceful, merciful, charitable, not materialistic and so on.

We are here on earth to bear fruit for Christ and for us to bear good fruits, we must submit ourselves to Him and let Him take control of our heart. In this way we will be disposed and content to do whatever He wants and that will give us satisfaction and fulfilment.

If we are not well disposed to receive the word of God, then we may never be a worthy vessel in God's hand. We need to remove from our hearts all encumberances that will prevent us from having time for God and the things that will help us build and grow our faith. We must study the word of God, meditate on it and let the fruits of our meditation be seen in our good works.
