A WORD FOR TODAY

Today we celebrate the memorial of Saints Joachim and Anne, the parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary. They heard God's commandment, they kept it and they taught our Blessed Mother Mary to do the same as she was growing up and that helped her to make the decision of accepting God's will to be done in her life at the annunciation.

Good parental upbringing and nurture reflects in the attitude of a child as he or she grows up. As parents we must strive to bring up our children in the fear of the Lord and for them to have a high sense of moral value so that they will positively contribute to the growth of our world in a manner that will be pleasing to the Lord.

The parents of the Blessed Virgin Mary taught her what it means to keep God's commandment and she never let them down, but remained focus and served the Lord with her life. She kept God's precepts and did what the Lord wanted and she was given the privilege and honour to be the mother of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

We must sow good seeds in the people placed under our care and help them to nurture their hearts to be receptive to God's word, so that when they grow up they will not depart from it. As parents and those with responsibility of taking care of the younger ones and children, we must do our work with diligence and faithfulness and show them good examples through our words and actions, in such a way that when they grow up they will shine out as the light wherever they may be.

There is need for us to feed our soul with God's word everyday and try to put into practice what the Word mandates us to do, because in keeping God's commandment we shall have life in abundance and we shall bear fruits that will endure. The commandments of the Lord gladdens the heart if we make the choice to let it take root in us.

keeping God's commandment will help us to be friends with Jesus and it will help us to bear lasting fruits that will bring us happiness and peace. It will also help us to lead others in the path of life and help them to grow up representing Jesus who has called us to come and follow Him.

When you make the choice to keep God's commandment, you give yourself the power to be fruitful and to be happy.
