A WORD FOR TODAY

DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR THE LORD

Opportunities abound and come to us from time to time for us to do something good for the Lord. If we take it, we will do something we will be proud of and which will make both God and man happy, but if we fail to take it, we shall be the one to live with the regret._

David in the first reading of today remembered all that the Lord has done for him and the success he has achieved by the power and name of God, and he went and brought back the ark of the covenant from the house of Obededom. He knew what the abiding presence of the Lord could do in the life of his people and he celebrated the return of the ark with great joy and worship and offered sacrifice of praise without shame.

The action of David could be seen as man doing something noble and good for the Lord, but it is more of man doing something good for himself. Anything good we do for God, we are actually doing for ourselves, because our praises and goodness add nothing to His greatness, but profits us for salvation.

To do something good for God we must love Him with our whole mind and heart and be ready to let His will be done in our life. We must let God dwell in our heart which is His temple and He will move us to go everywhere spreading the message of His love.

If there is any good to be done, helping the needy, feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, building God's house and temple, volunteering your service freely for the good of others and being a helper and strong support to those living with disability and those with mental health issues, do not hesitate to do it for it will please the Lord and such actions will never go unrewarded.

Be a mother, brother, sister and friend to Jesus, simply by doing God's will. Do something good and you will make God happy and when God is happy with you and His presence surrounds you, then you can be rest assured that you will be an overcomer.

Today the Church celebrates the memorial of saint Thomas Aquinas, priest and Doctor(1225-1274). He was born of a noble family and studied under saint Albert the great. He wrote so many wonderful works in theology and philosophy and explained the faith in a way a layman could understand it. Let us learn from Him to always let God make use of us for His own glory.

Anything good you do for God, you do for yourself. Therefore, give God yourself and let Him make use of you for His own glory.
