A WORD FOR TODAY
BE DISCIPLINED AS YOU SERVE THE LORD
_“My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor lose courage when you are punished by him. For the Lord disciplines him whom he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”(Hebrews 12:5-6)_
_*To be disciplined is to be orderly or to behave or act in a manner that promotes peace and makes one look responsible and mature. Any person who wants to be taken seriously in life must be disciplined and without discipline there will be chaos and anarchy.*_
_We are reminded today in the first reading that God disciplines and chastises those He loves. The essence of this discipline from the Lord is for us not to lose sight of what our mission on earth is. He disciplines us so that we will remain focused and keep moving forward in the practice of our faith._
_*Just as a teacher disciplines a student in a class to help him or her to concentrate in their studies, that is how the Lord also does to us. He punishes us when we go astray in order to help us change our ways and become better. He is not disciplining us to kill us, but He is only doing it because He loves us and will not let us perish because of the attitude of indiscipline.*_
_The fruits of discipline is growth in righteousness and spiritual upliftment. When we allow the Lord's discipline to penetrate our being, we will be the ones to benefit from it. Therefore, never get angry when you pass through pain or suffering, instead, tap into them and become better and stronger as a disciple of Jesus._
_*Anyone who wants to serve Jesus and follow Him, must be disciplined. Obey the Lord and let Him do with you whatever He wills. Never ignore or reject God's chastisement, because its aim is to help us remain on the right track in the journey of serving Him.*_
_In the gospel reading, Jesus could not perform much miracle in his hometown because of their lack of faith. They looked down on Him because of familiarity and as a result of that they lost out on the blessings they would have received. We must grow our faith in God always and avoid looking down on people, because you do not know the person the Lord will use to bless you._

*God's love will always move Him to chastise us, we must accept it, learn and grow from it, in order to become better disciples.*
