A WORD FOR TODAY

Today we celebrate the feast of saints Philip and James, two apostles of Jesus Christ who followed Him and gave their lives in martyrdom for His sake. They worked very hard to win souls for Christ through their teachings and witnessing, both by word of mouth and also by their way of life.

They were called by Jesus Christ, they answered the call and followed Him till the end and today they are in heaven enjoying the beatific vision. After their encounter with Jesus, they went out everywhere proclaiming His name and winning souls into the kingdom.

We cannot proclaim Christ if we do not encounter Him. When we encounter Him we will come to believe that He is the way, the truth and the life as recorded in the gospel reading of today. No one can come to the Father except through Him. He came, He died, He was buried and He rose from the dead and whatever we ask in His name will be granted so that the Father will be glorified.

Jesus suffered and died and He rose from the dead. This is our faith and we must proclaim it without fear for the salvation of those who hear us and will come to believe in what we proclaim. We are the apostles of the new era and by virtue of our baptism we have been called just like saints Philip and James and we must not relent in proclaiming Christ in words and deeds for the salvation of those who are yet to come to believe in Him.

If we believe in Christ we shall do the works that He did. Therefore, now is the time to make our faith in Jesus grow stronger and intimately. This encounter will make us to know Him more, love Him and be willing and ready to die for Him as we witness for Him.
