A WORD FOR TODAY*

GUARD YOUR HEART FROM EVIL

_"When Jesus had thus spoken, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, “Truly, truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me. The disciples looked at one another, uncertain of whom he spoke."_

_*Today we read in the gospel how Jesus' appeal to Judas to change his ways from betraying Him did not move him from doing what he had planned to do in his heart. He was good, but he let his heart to be conquered by the evil one and sin got hold of Him.*_

_We also see how Peter promised to stand by Jesus, but in the end he will fail to keep to his promise. He denied him three times, but he quickly realised that he has failed and he was remorseful and Jesus showed him mercy._

_*In this story we see how the heart is being sought after by Jesus who is light and the devil who represents darkness. If we guard our heart against evil and stand by God, we will never sin and we shall be in the light, but if we do not guard our heart, we shall fall into sin and we shall live in darkness.*_

_Judas had the intent to betray Jesus, he conceived it in his heart and he finally acted on it. Jesus knew what was in his heart and all that he did was to appeal to his heart not to carry it out, but in the end he allowed darkness to reign in his soul. To betray a true friend just because of money and other material things is very painful and that is something that is still happening in our world today._

_*God has done everything good to us, but when we live in sin, we display an attitude of betrayal to Him who has given us the best. We must constantly guard our heart from drifting into evil, we must strive to retrieve our minds and heart from dwelling on evil thoughts. We must fill our heart with God's Word and with things that represent the light and in that way we shall not sin or walk in darkness.*_

_We must try as much as we can through the grace of the Holy Spirit to rise from where we have fallen, to make amends and return back to the way of the light and righteousness so that we shall be saved. God is wiling and ready to welcome us back and he gives us opportunity to repent, but if we fail to take it, we might be lost forever. Now is the time to rise and now is the time to become a better person._
