A WORD FOR TODAY 5 FEBRUARY 2021

*A WORD FOR TODAY*

*LOVE ONE ANOTHER AND LIVE A GOOD LIFE FOR GOD

_"Let brotherly love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers, for thereby some have entertained angels unawares." (Hebrews 13:1-2)_

_*The admonition of the author of the letter to the Hebrews as we have in the first reading of today is something we must take seriously. Anyone who wants to live as God's beloved child must aim to live in love and do the things that will please God.*_

_In a world where wickedness, quarreling and bitterness is rife, we are called to let brotherly love continue. This means that as followers of Jesus, we must never stop doing good and living righteously, because that is the only way we will be able to change the face of the earth._

_*Where there is true love, there will not be hatred and stinginess. Where there is true love, you will see compassion and empathy in action. Where there is true love there will not be unfaithfulness in marriage and relationship. Where there is true love there will not be avarice or unguarded quest and desire for wealth and material things.*_

_If we truly love as God has directed, we must not be greedy, but content with whatever we have and we will totally depend on God who will be our sure helper in our times of need._

_*In the gospel reading we see one of the effects of lack of love, John was killed simply because he spoke the truth to the king and to Herodias. Her anger and bitterness culminated in her waiting for an opportunity to pay him back with evil. It was a killing to silence the voice of truth, but even his death did not make the truth to be killed, but it continued to resound everywhere.*_

_We must speak the truth like Saint John the Baptist always even if we are going to die for it. We must not fail to do good and show people the way that leads to life even if they hate us and persecute us. We must live righteously and guide others in the path of goodness._

_*Today we celebrate the memorial of st. Agatha. She gave her live to God in her early years and when she was persecuted and tortured to leave Jesus she never gave up, but persevered till the end. She was martyred at Catania in Sicily and devotion to her was widespread in the Church in the earliest times and she is mentioned in the Roman Canon of the Mass. Let us learn from her heroic faith to love Jesus and love our neighbor and live a good life always.*_

_Good morning dearest one. Smile😊 as you do your work and do have a beautiful day. May Jesus give you the grace to live a good life and to do good to others always. Amen. *And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.*_

*Meditation:* Hebrews 13:1-8/Psalm 27:1,3,5,8-9/Mark 6:14-29

*Watch-Word:* The Lord is my light and my salvation.

*Never stop doing good, even if you suffer for it, because the light of your goodness will continue to shine after you have gone.*
