A WORD FOR TODAY

The story in the first reading of today is one that teaches us not to take laws into our hands to fast track and bring about God's predestined plan for us, because His time will always be the best. What Rebekah and Jacob did was wrong, although he received the blessing from his Father Isaac but he paid a severe price for it.

We must always let God's will be done as He has promised it to us rather than manipulating situations to let it turn to our favour. God can do all things and He is faithful to His word, therefore, put your trust in Him at all times and believe that what He has promised you will come to fulfilment.

In the gospel reading of today Jesus teaches us as he taught His disciples that to follow Him is to find joy and be happy, because so long as we are in Christ and with Him, we shall have joy in our heart. The joy that knowing Christ brings is not the same with what the world will offer to us, therefore, there is need for us to always strive to do those things that will make us to be friends with Jesus always.

We should also know that in following Jesus we must also experience the cross. There is a time of joy and there is also a time of pain and anyone who truly wish to follow Jesus must be ready to accept both the joy and the pain that this followership brings.

We must also do our best to live out what we profess in faith. We are not to compromise our faith and mix it up with things that will make people not to recognise who we are in Christ. We must be the light both in the interior and exterior. Our inner life should reflect what we practise on the outside.

For our Christianty to become authentic we must be ready to do it the way that Jesus wants it to be practised. It will cost us something, but in the end our witnessing will be real sincere and honest and it will bring us joy everlasting in His kingdom.

Jesus has called us to follow Him and we must do it in a way that will be pleasing to Him if we intend to find joy and peace.
