A WORD FOR TODAY

There is time for everything on earth, a time to feast and a time to fast. The pharisees in the gospel reading of today are reacting against the attitude of Jesus' disciples not to fast as does the disciples of John and their own disciples. However Jesus used the opportunity to teach them something about Himself.

He told them that the wedding guests cannot fast while the bridegroom is with them, but a time will come when they will fast, that is, when the bridegroom is no longer with them. His response is simply to remind them that He has come to bring new life and anyone who accepts Him will definitely enjoy all the goodness that comes with it and will also be prepared to share the cross that comes with it too. As saint paul noted, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, everything old has passed away, all has become new"(2 Corinthians 5:17)

The new life we live in Christ is one that does not compromise or mix a new garment with an old one or put a new wine into old wine skin. It expresses itself in a new way according to the standard laid down by Christ Himself who is the head of the body the Church, the first-born of all creation in whom all things hold together.

To accept Jesus is to accept a new life and a new way which He offers. It is a way of love, peace, forgiveness, reconciliation, kindness, a way of joy and freedom. Anyone who walks in this way will never entertain the works of darkness, but will always walk in the path of life.

The pharisees were not ready to accept the new life that Christ came to offer, because they felt it will destroy their way of life, but it is this attitude of rejection that is holding them down from growing. We cannot grow in Christ if we fail to change our old attitude and mentality and live a life based on the new teachings of Christ which actually has not come to destroy the old, but to make them new.

An encounter with Jesus will transform us and it will help us to know the way of love which will help us to live well here on earth and be ready to enjoy the blessedness of God's kingdom on the last day. Let the world know that you belong to Christ through your words and actions which will flow from your contact with Jesus, who is the way, the truth and the life.

Good morning dearest one. Smile😊as you do your work and do have a magnificent day. May Jesus give you the grace to live a new life that will attract souls into His kingdom. Amen. And may the Almighty God bless you: the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.
