A WORD FOR TODAY

BE SINCERE AND PRAY TO GOD WITH FAITH

"He was praying in a certain place, and when he ceased, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be thyname. Thy kingdom come."(Luke 11:1-2)_

Sincerity is a virtue that anyone who chooses to follow Christ must strive to imbibe. It sets you apart from others who may not be ready to put it on as a garment. To be sincere is to be honest, truthful, genuine and without hypocrisy or double standard in attitude.

In the first reading of today we see how saint Paul was able to express his mind about Cephas who seemed to have discriminated against the Gentiles. His behaviour and attitude is simply hypocrisy and Paul did not fail to point it out to him._

We must learn from saint Paul to be sincere in our dealings with God and our fellow brothers and sisters and in that way we shall be like Christ, who is the way, the truth and the life and we will be able to represent Him in this life and win souls for Him.

Jesus in the gospel reading of today taught His disciples how to pray. He was sincere and told them the truth without hiding anything from them. He lived a life of prayer and they sought to learn from Him and He did not hide it from them, but gave them the secret that will help them to live a good and honest life as His followers.

To pray is good, but we must strive to pray with sincerity. Our heart must aim to be fixed on Jesus and in our dealings with our brothers and sisters we should be straightforward and not deceive people to believe that we are who and what we are not. Show them the face of Jesus, by being honest and sincere in your dealings with them and you will be able to win them over to God

Today we celebrate the memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. The feast of the Holy Rosary was instituted by Pope Pius V to celebrate the anniversary of the defeat of the Turkish fleet at the battle of Lepanto on the first Sunday in October 1571, which ended the threat of Muslim domination of the Mediterranean and was ascribed in part to the prayers and processions of the Rosary confraternity in Rome. Later the feast was moved to the fixed date of 7 October. Let us always pray Our Rosary and seek the intercession of Our Blessed Mother in the needs of our life.

It is easier to win souls for Christ when you are sincere and honest than when your life is full of hypocrisy and deceit.
